Estepona
Pretty white houses, world-class beaches and a sophisticated atmosphere make Estepona the destination for people who enjoy the finer things in life. Estepona has retained its authentic Spanish atmosphere while developing as a popular community for expats and holidaymakers.
Surrounded by mountains and beautiful Blue Flag beaches, this Mediterranean community has a working fishing port lined with fish restaurants. As well as modest supermarkets and traditional markets, it has many restaurants for al fresco dining.
The Old City is clustered around the 15th century San Luis Castle, with narrow streets, pretty homes and courtyard gardens overflowing with bougainvillea. Estepona also has several top golf clubs and an Exhibition and Conference Centre which hosts many events and business fairs.
Estepona is a traditional fishing town turned resort with a distinctly Andalucian look and feel. Walk past whitewashed buildings festooned with stunning blue and pink flowers towards the sea front and take in life around one of the numerous chiringuitos (beach bars) serving fresh fish and paella.
Fronting a wide, sweeping beach that stretches the length of the town, Estepona's charming boulevards, beautiful plazas and inescapably Spanish atmosphere act as a breath of fresh air.
In recent years the municipality has also promoted itself as the “Garden of the Costa del Sol”, transforming the historic centre with a beautification project that has involved adorning walls with murals, planting one million flowers, bedecking streets with hanging flower pots and undertaking a significant pedestrianization of the streets – as well as opening a stunning Orchidarium.
Every Sunday morning, throughout the year, the colourful local market takes over the harbour and its surrounding streets and alleys.
