Sotogrande
Sotogrande is located at the southern point of Costa del Sol, just before you reach Gibraltar.
Sotogrande was developed as a gated community in 1962 by wealthy American Joseph McMicking and Sotogrande is the largest privately owned residential development in San Roque, Cadiz.
Joseph McMicking was following a very specific vision for a leisurely lifestyle of golf and polo with high quality infrastructure, luxury properties and a beautiful marina.
Sotogrande is a posh upmarket resort with a pretty marina, beaches and golf courses
Sotogrande has 12 km of beaches, with good views of the Rock of Gibraltar and across to Africa, a good port and marina and a world class golf course. Sotogrande is home to the world famous Valderrama course, host to the Volvo Masters and Ryder Cup.
Sotogrande was originally an area of great beauty and it’s potential was seen by Joseph McMicking who bought the land and began to transform it into the luxury development it is today with it’s landscaped grounds surrounding the lake and the wide palm-lined avenues.
This highly sought after urbanization has some of the most expensive homes in Europe. It has attracted owners and visitors from the world stage, including royalty, world leaders, politicians and international artists. Its success is down to the modern, boundary-pushing architecture, high specification facilities and sense of privacy.
It is an idyllic area. Blue flagged beaches and the National Park are but a taste of the splendors on offer. All different, all invoking different responses depending on the season, but always with that sensation of quality and luxury that makes a person feel there is nowhere else they would rather be.
There are two well-known beach clubs with good tourist facilities – El Octogono Beach Club and El Cucurucho. These typically have restaurants, play areas for children, bars and the typical water sports are offered such as sailing and wind surfing.
